Hennepin County Votes is a program developed by Community Action Partnership of Suburban Hennepin to increase voter participation levels among historically underrepresented groups.  CAPSH improves voting levels through a variety of strategies designed to inform and empower potential voters to make their voices heard. CAPSH believes a more diverse electorate, one that reflects the demographic composition of suburban Hennepin County as a whole, is essential to the health of our democracy and a key component of "giving voice" to groups that too often are ignored.  CAPSH's strategy takes a broad approach to empowering Hennepin County residents, including:

  • Distributing voter registration cards and information in many languages.

  • Distributing voter information and registration forms at community events, community centers, cultural centers, subsidized housing, shelters, places of worship and resource centers in an effort to transform politically apathetic citizens into voters.

  • Sending Periodic news releases to community-oriented newspapers describing Hennepin County Votes and encouraging citizens to make their voice heard in the November election.

  • Working with service providers and non-partisan voting organizations when appropriate in order to mobilize resources and effectively confront the issue of low voter turnout among key groups.

The need for all voices to be heard is critical. In recent elections voting levels among low income people, African Americans, Asians, Hispanics, Native Americans and other minority groups have been much less than 50 percent.  For our democracy to function as it was intended, voting levels need to increase.

Our Vision ~ CAPSH will be the preeminent poverty fighting agency in suburban Hennepin County.
