Whether you have tax preparation experience or not, low-income families and individuals need your help! You don't have to prepare taxes to volunteer with CAPSH--volunteer opportunities reflect many different interests, and types of expertise.
Tax Site Assistant : Help manage the flow of activities at scheduled tax sites in Hennepin County. Greet and register clients and screen for eligibility.
Tax Preparer: Assist low-income families and individuals with filing federal and state returns using tax software. Volunteers will receive in-depth tax preparation training.
Tax Reviewer: Review returns prepared by the volunteer preparers. Knowledge of Federal and MN forms is required. Previous experience with tax preparation preferred.
Time and Commitment: Volunteering takes place from the first week of February through April 15, 2010. Volunteers work one to two 4 hour shifts per week depending on availability. Evening and Saturday volunteer shifts are available. For tax preparers only: Training prior to tax clinic will require approximately 20 hours, based on previous tax knowledge. Training will take place in December and January based on availability.
Locations: CAPSH currently operates 7 tax clinic locations across Hennepin County. With locations in Hopkins, Brooklyn Park, Edina, Mound, Eden Prairie, Brooklyn Center, and Minnetonka, volunteers select the dates and tax sites that are most convenient to them.
