Electoral College
- The Electoral College is the body of electors that chooses the president and vice president of the U.S.
- Each state gets electors equal to its number of Senators (always 2) and its Representatives (varies based on state population)
- Minnesota gets 10 electoral college votes (2 Senators + 8 U.S. Representatives = 10)
- In general, whichever candidate wins the most votes (popular vote) in a particular state, receives all the electoral college votes of that state (winner gets all 10 MN votes)
- In this system, a candidate can win the popular vote and still lose the election (example: Al Gore in 2000)
