Your county and city government is also divided into different branches.

Your city council is a legislative body that has the authority to:

- Approve your city's budget

- License businesses

- Enter into contracts

- Provide educational, social, cultural, and recreational services

Your mayor (an executive position) is the head of your city. He or she has the authority to:

- Preside over city council meetings

- Bring lawsuits (with council approval)

- Enforce contracts

- Other powers depending on your city
