Title: Energy Assistance Program Temp Department: Energy Assistance Program
Reports To: Director of Operations
Grade and Salary Range: $14/hour
Position Summary: The Data Entry Eligibility Worker for the Energy Assistance Program is involved in gathering needed consumption data and entering household information of applications submitted by low income households who need assistance with their home energy costs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Intake/ Application Processing
- Be familiar with all program regulations and application processes.
- Coordinate with clerical position, intake and initial processing of applications.
- Work with Fuel and Electric Vendors to gather usage, amounts owed and status of accounts for households that have applied for the energy assistance program using the telephone fax or e-mail.
- Complete eligibility worksheet and other necessary forms legibly, accurately and completely.
Data Processing
- Enter verified application information accurately and completely on computer system using MCADS or other appropriate software program as needed.
- Enter consumption information on computer system
- Assist with the preparation of program reports as needed.
Community Building/Crisis Referrals
- Participate in outreach activities.
- Participate in the building of working relationships with other social service and community resources.
- Attend EAP and CAPSH staff meetings and other events as assigned.
Clerical
- Assist with mail distribution of EAP applications, as well as the tracking, receipt and distribution for processing of all applications.
- Assist with the accurate filing and purging of EAP applications and household records.
Client Communication
- Inform applicants of their rights and responsibilities.
- Inform clients when additional information is needed to complete their application.
- Inform clients of eligibility status.
- Assist with intake telephone lines as needed and be able to respond to calls from households requesting information about EAP or community resources.
- Other duties as assigned.
Scope of Responsibility: Know the policies, procedures and practices necessary to perform the assigned duties.
Decision-Making: Carries out routine duties with supervision as needed. Makes decisions and establishes work priorities on essentially procedure-oriented operations
Authority: Does not direct the activities of other staff.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
- High level of communication, math and problem-solving skills.
- High level of computer literacy and competency.
- Attention to detail, ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time and flexibility.
- Ability to work independently with a high degree of organization and precision.
- Demonstrated data processing and computer skills.
- Ability to work with a variety of people.
- Ability to be non-judgmental, and respectful of clients
- Ability to keep all client information confidential
- Self-starter and the ability to work as a team member.
- Experience with the Energy Assistance Program and/or other direct client services a plus.
Education: High school diploma or GED minimum.
Experience: Related data entry experience, customer service experience or a demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience; or a demonstrated capacity to perform the job duties.
Physical Requirements:
- Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods
- Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction
- Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard
- Communication skills using the spoken word
- Ability to see within normal parameters
- Ability to hear within normal range
- Ability to move about
- Ability to lift and a carry a least 15 lbs.
